Poppodium Fluor
03-11-2022 / Live /Fluor (formerly De Kelder) is a vibrant music venue in the historic Dutch city of Amersfoort. Located in a former factory, Fluor is one of the 39 Dutch ‘core stages,’ a status that entitles the venue to special government-funded subsidy schemes for music programming. Amptec was recently called in to renew the aging sound system in the venue’s small hall – and they selected A-Series from d&b.
Interestingly, the existing system was in fact a 25-year-old F1222 system from d&b – a testament to the longevity of d&b products. Although still functioning, the time had come to upgrade to a modern system that would offer better performance in a more compact, lightweight package.
“The configuration of the room is slightly odd because the stage is built across a corner of the room and looks out diagonally rather than front to back as you might expect. What’s more, the room is effectively L-shaped (in reverse) with the foot of the L furthest from the stage,” explains Amptec’s Mike Manders. “Consequently, controlled dispersion is crucial to make sure that the whole room is covered adequately. d&b’s A-Series ‘Augmented Array’ loudspeakers offered us the performance we required in a compact, flexible package.”
Amptec installed a pair of d&b AL60s per side, flown vertically, with a 44S point source loudspeaker – also mounted vertically – acting as a delay to fill the ‘hidden’ corner. The existing B6 subwoofers housed in the front of the stage stayed in place for low frequency reinforcement. The entire system is powered and controlled by d&b’s newest amplifier, the 4-channel D40.
“We’re thrilled with the system that Amptec has delivered,” says Fluor’s technical manager, Bart Klamer. “We now have a modern sound system with all the latest technologies to deliver detailed, high quality audio right across the room despite its awkward shape. It’s smaller, lighter, and more versatile than what we had before and offers the high performance we were looking for. We should be good for the next twenty years now!”
