Da Capo Brings Film Music to Life with Soundscape
23-04-2025Cinema in Concert breathes new life into iconic film scores from titles like Spectre, Gladiator, and The Lion King, transforming them into immersive live experiences in theatres and concert halls. When these epic soundtracks are performed live by a full orchestra, detailed and spatially accurate sound reproduction is essential. That’s why Da Capo chooses the d&b Soundscape system—to seamlessly blend music with the on-screen action.
“Soundscape ensures the music doesn’t just come from a speaker—it becomes part of the film experience,” says Rob Strolenberg of Da Capo. “It keeps the audience fully engaged in the music and the narrative, free from distractions.”
Flexibility is Key
Da Capo has been behind the sound design for major productions like Spectre, featuring a 71-piece orchestra, and Gladiator, which included 77 orchestra members, over 50 choir singers, and soloist Lisa Gerrard.
The team tailors the setup for each venue—sometimes augmenting existing house systems with extra arrays, or using a full in-house PA when needed. “For these film concerts, it’s not just about tuning the sound perfectly,” Rob explains. “You also have to consider sightlines and projections. We aim to deliver a complete sensory experience where visuals and sound merge effortlessly.”
In venues like the Elisabeth Hall, Da Capo operated with a fully in-house PA system. For the Gladiator production at the RTM Stage, surround speakers were even added to enhance reverb and spatial depth.
These productions are commissioned by Making Waves.
