All cards on the table with Jack-of-all-trades Marne.

Amptec Insider Stories

Marne found his way into the HVAC sector through an internship contract, where he had the chance to develop into a project manager. But he felt a need for more structure and greater challenges. His love for audiovisual work led him to Amptec. Meet our Jack-of-all-trades Marne Peters.

After his secondary studies, it was already clear to Marne: he wanted to work in AV. 'To increase my chances of passing my entrance exam in sound engineering, I followed a basic training course at Hasselt's Muziekodroom concert hall. But to no avail. I ended up in the HVAC sector and became a project manager'.

When his love for AV started up again and he was ready for a new direction, he turned to Amptec, following a recommendation from his colleague Steven Aerts, with whom he also collaborates on the technical teams of several theatre companies. Although there wasn't an open position at the time, we were more than happy to support his talent. He gained valuable experience in the cabling department and as a project assistant. Soon after, circumstances led him to take the lead on a high-speed project for NPO. The success of that venture quickly opened doors to new opportunities, including projects like De Bilding, De Kroon, and Velinx. Having been part of the working group that helped establish the De Bilding youth centre, being able to work on its sound system through Amptec and manage the cabling was a full-circle moment for him.

Marne also likes to share his knowledge within Amptec. 'I invented and designed all kinds of moulds and fittings that make processes in the production department more efficient. Soon, colleagues also saw opportunities to be able to make prototypes for specific custom-made products faster this way. As a result, Amptec decided to incorporate a 3D printer into its own machinery. It is now used intensively for all kinds of solutions. The 3D drawing programmes I taught myself.'

“The variety and the constant drive for the best quality make the work truly fulfilling for me.”

What he likes most about his job? “I get to go to places where no one else goes. For example, the attic (!) of the Royal Theatre of La Monnaie in Brussels, through which the cables run. Who else has the chance to work in such a place? Spectators often have no idea what goes on behind the scenes to make sure a performance stays on track. Knowing that the sound signal from the artists on stage is going through my assembled cables makes me feel really proud. The variety and the constant drive for the best quality make the work truly fulfilling for me. And of course, the interesting conversations with colleagues are also a big plus!”

So what's next for Marne? He wants to keep learning about the technical aspects. And in the process, grow as a project leader. The ultimate goal: to manage multiple projects simultaneously. “For that, I still need to gain more technical knowledge. Fortunately, I learn a lot from the experts at Amptec. Having to delegate a lot and pass on work takes some getting used to! After all, in a large company like Amptec, there's a right person for every job.”
