Amptec elevates Utrecht learning space with d&b

The Herman Brood Academy - part of MBO Utrecht - is a contemporary music school offering courses on music event organisation and management, technical production and performance. Having built a brand new theatre hall, HBA turned to Amptec for the audio requirements. Amptec designed and installed a d&b point source system as the optimal solution for the new venue which acts as a classroom as well as a performance space.



“We host everything from presentations to graduation ceremonies as well as concerts from the music department - and of course it's our main teaching venue for our stage production classes,”

explains HBA technical manager Juliaan Slembrouck.


“Absolutely anyone can operate this system - it works perfectly for a simple presentation with a single wireless mic but is just as suited for a DJ or a loud band.”

“I particularly wanted a system that was practical, robust and easy to use as it's being used and manipulated by inexperienced people. And a simple configuration - just L/R, maybe an additional centre cluster and subs later.”

In fact, Amptec did better than that. Sales manager Mike Manders takes up the story: “The hall is shallow and wide, and the client preferred a clean floor, so the entire system had to be flown. We opted for a Y-Series point source solution with wide horizontal dispersion and a flown cardioid ViSUB per side, supplemented by flown 10S infills to ensure good coverage for the first few rows. Absolutely anyone can operate this system - it works perfectly for a simple presentation with a single wireless mic but is just as suited for a DJ or a loud band.”



Slembrouck is delighted with the results. “This hall is the pride of our building and our students are privileged to work on a system of this calibre! The d&b system is perfectly in line with the theatre's appearance and was our first choice.”
