New sound system for Marble Hall in KIT
25-01-2024Based at a national heritage site in Amsterdam, KIT Royal Tropical Institute is an independent centre of expertise, education and hospitality dedicated to sustainable development. Offering a wide variety of venues for hire for conferences, dinners, seminars and more, the jewel in the crown is the splendid Marble Hall – spanning four floors, this imposing space is covered in no less than twelve types of marble from the beautiful Italian region of Tuscany.
Delivering adequate audio over four floors of marble-clad surfaces inevitably presents a number of acoustic challenges. Having struggled for years with poor sound in the Marble Hall, KIT called on Amptec to resolve their issues.
A multi-zone point source solution
Amptec designed and installed a comprehensive multi-zone point source system spread across the four floors based on six d&b 24C column loudspeakers in white to blend seamlessly with the architecture. Two of the 24Cs were suspended vertically facing into the central area surrounded by pillars, while the other four were deployed horizontally as under balcony loudspeakers around the central space. Thirteen 44S loudspeakers, also in white, completed the installation. Amptec also provided two mobile B4 subs for events requiring extra low-end reinforcement. Control across the four zones is handled by Q-SYS, while Amptec’s dedicated cabling department, Connx provided a range of custom font panels and wall boxes for easy patching and fingertip control.
Thanks to the optimal placement of many different loudspeakers throughout the space, speech intelligibility has been significantly improved. The designation of four specific zones has made the space much more versatile, with the guarantee of high quality audio whatever the event.
